Meet
Hamdan.

11 years old · Dubai · Young Maker House Maker #001

Hamdan is the first young Maker at Young Maker House. What began as a mindful activity—choosing beads and making bracelets from start to finish—grew into his first handmade collection.

Dubai, UAE Making comes first
The beginning

It started with making.

Before there was a collection, there was simply an activity Hamdan enjoyed: sitting down, focusing on the next bead and seeing an idea through.

“I started making bracelets because I found it to be a nice, mindful activity. It gives me something creative to focus on and I enjoy the process of making something from start to finish.”

Experimenting with colour

No two ideas have to start the same way.

Hamdan thinks about the person and the feeling behind a bracelet, then experiments with colours, luminous beads and patterns until the pieces work together.

“I usually think about who the bracelet is for and the theme I want it to have. Then I choose colours and beads that I think work well together.”
“I like all the different colourful and luminous beads. There are so many combinations you can try, and it feels really satisfying when you finish a bracelet and see how everything comes together.”

The favourite

“The green one.”

My favourite is the green bracelet with the bronze rings between the colours. Green is my favourite colour, and I like that the bracelet has so many different shades of green. I think the bronze rings make all the colours look even better together.

Then the ideas started adding up.

One bracelet became another. Different colours, patterns and themes became a first collection of 30 creations—a creative milestone, not a finish line.

“I've learned that there are so many different ways to make a bracelet. You can keep changing the colours, beads, patterns and ideas, and every creation can be different. I've also learned that even if someone doesn't buy one of my bracelets, I still enjoy making new ones because it helps me expand my creativity.”
What Hamdan has learned
A new possibility

Then someone might want one.

Realising that another person might choose something he made gave Hamdan another reason to keep exploring—but never replaced the enjoyment of making.

“When I realised someone might actually buy something I made, it really motivated me to make more. It made me want to keep trying new designs and create more things.”
Hamdan's advice to other young Makers

Selling isn't the only point.

“Even if you don't get any buyers, that doesn't mean you should stop making. Making bracelets shouldn't only be about selling. It should also be an activity you love to do.”
